- 4 oz red bell peppers diced
- 4 oz onions diced
- 2 oz celery diced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup homemade tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted chicken broth
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1.5 oz cheddar cheese shredded
- 2 oz cabbage shredded
- 2 oz red cabbage shredded
- 2 tsp garlic minced
- 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp Heinz ketchup
- 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp traditional Dijon mustard
INSTRUCTIONS
Select the “sauté” mode on the Instant Pot. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp unsalted butter. When the butter has melted, sauté 2 tsp garlic, 4 oz diced onions, and 2 oz diced celery for 3 minutes. Stir in 4 oz bell peppers to cook for another 2 minutes.

Add 14 oz ground beef to the pot and break it apart so it cooks more evenly. Add 1/2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1 tbsp ketchup, 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 tsp chili powder, and 1/2 tsp Dijon, and cook everything for 5 minutes.

Stir in 1/3 cup tomato sauce and add 1/4 cup unsalted chicken broth. Close the lid and turn the steam handle to “sealed”. Select the “meat stew” option and adjust the timer to 10 minutes.

When the machine finishes, place a kitchen towel on top of the steam handle and switch it to “venting” with a spoon. Wait for the steam to release and then quickly stir in 3 tbsp all-purpose flour. Select “sauté” mode again and cook for another 2 minutes.

Assemble the sloppy joes with the burger buns, the meat, the shredded cabbages and the cheese. Enjoy!
