Ingredients You Will Need
- Pasta
For this recipe, we chose macaroni (elbow noodles) due to its size and shape. However, you’re free to choose your favorite pasta shape.
For a pasta salad, we recommend choosing shapes that are similar in size to other ingredients and compatible with the dressing. Being bite-sized and good for holding the creamy sauce, we can suggest rotini, farfalle, or conchiglie.
- Eggs
Eggs have a double purpose in this recipe. The egg whites form part of the salad ingredients, while the yolks are in the creamy dressing.
Check out our Deviled Eggs Recipe for specific guides on how to make the eggs, or this How to Boil Eggs instruction.
- Celery and red onion
These two vegetables have intense flavors and crunchy textures. They both stand out from the creaminess and many layers of flavors in this dish.
- Dressing
This dressing is basically the deviled egg filling. It is made from familiar ingredients like egg yolks, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and pepper. We also added Greek yogurt to maintain the creaminess without adding more mayonnaise.
- Paprika
The salad is topped off with a sprinkle of paprika. This will give the salad a bold shade of red and a little kick.
What Else Can I Add to This Salad?
This salad is versatile, so you may add more ingredients if you like.
Adding cheese, for example, would reunite the dynamic duo of macaroni and cheese.
More vegetables are always welcome. Some suggestions are frozen peas, jalapeno, carrots, or pickles. There are loads of other options, so the sky’s the limit.
What to Serve With
Deviled eggs being an iconic picnic dish you could serve this creamy salad with other classic picnic food such as sandwiches, summer rolls, crackers, or bread.
This salad also goes well with a cookout. Grilled meat, chicken, and sausages paired with this salad would make a hearty meal.
How to Store the Leftovers
You can store this salad in an airtight container in the fridge, and it should last 3-5 days. We don’t recommend freezing the salad, because the texture of the macaroni, vegetables, and the thick sauce will break down.
