This papaya pineapple smoothie recipe introduces a vibrant drink that is perfect to serve on warm days.
The tangy, crisp pineapple and sweet, soft papaya may sound like a conflict, but the combination goes beyond deliciousness. The drink is packed with tropical fruits and is irresistibly refreshing when served chilled.
How Healthy Is Papaya Pineapple Smoothie?
In general, fruits are beneficial to our health, and this smoothie is no exception.
To begin with, our papaya and pineapple smoothie brings together diverse micronutrient profiles to give you: vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K, and trace levels of calcium, potassium, magnesium, and many more.
In addition, like many other red/orange fruits and vegetables, papaya is rich in antioxidants, specifically carotenoids. Carotenoids can boost your immune system and reduce the risk of disease, particularly for certain cancers and eye diseases.
Other nutrients in the smoothie, including vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin A, are also antioxidants. Antioxidants can eliminate free radicals from the body’s cells and prevent or decrease oxidative damage. Scientists have linked them to many benefits such as protecting us from premature aging, heart disease, cancer, and supporting mental health.
In addition, each papaya pineapple smoothie serving contains a healthy number of calories—97 calories with no added sugar because we do not use any additional sweetener.
Main Ingredients
Ripe papaya, red or orange, is perfect for smoothies because it creates a light and pleasant base. The fruit’s buttery texture also makes the smoothie extra creamy.
The combination of papaya and pineapple works wonderfully. Ripe papaya is soft and subtle, while the pineapple lends a sharp sweetness with a slight tartness.
A squeeze of lime juice helps to balance and accentuate the overall flavor. Instead of milk, we made this smoothie vegan by using pineapple juice, which balances the sweetness and highlights the tropical theme. Alternatively, you can use coconut water or orange juice.
The recipe didn’t call for additional sugar because the fruits are already sweet. If you want to sweeten the smoothie, we recommend honey. Its nutty flavor pairs particularly well with the acidic taste of pineapple.
The resulting drink has an excellent tropical flavor. You can add chia seeds or chopped pistachios to the smoothie to give it a lovely touch of crunchiness.

Storage
- Smoothie
Even though it only takes a few minutes to prepare this refreshing tropical smoothie, it’s a great idea to have a few servings ready to drink in the refrigerator in the morning. Our papaya pineapple smoothies can be stored in sealed jars in the refrigerator for 3 – 5 days.
You may also want to keep smoothies in small Ziploc bags in the freezer. This way, the drink can last for around 3 months.
- Fruits
Another way to prepare smoothies in advance is to save some frozen fruits. Simply place chopped fruits in separate freezer-safe bags and store them in the freezer.
When you’re ready to have the smoothie, transfer the fruits from the freezer bag to your blender, add pineapple juice, and blend until smooth and creamy.
