Is Our Recipe Healthy?
Yes, it is.
With only 178 calories per serving, you can reap excellent rewards from the rich supply of vitamin C, natural antioxidants, and dietary fiber these two berries bring.
- Strawberries:
Strawberries are remarkably low in calories and sugar, containing only 32 calories and 4.9 grams of sugar per 100 grams. They are also a good source of natural antioxidants, vitamin C, and phenolic compounds.
Strawberries also happen to be a sodium-free, fat-free, and cholesterol-free food. They're among the best fruits for weight loss, blood pressure control, heart disease prevention, cancer prevention, and boosting the immune system. Additionally, they're also anti-inflammatory and anti-hair loss agents.
- Raspberries:
Raspberries are high in potassium, which has been shown to be a necessary mineral for heart function and to help lower blood pressure. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids that may help prevent stroke and heart disease, and manganese, a mineral that is vital for healthy bones and skin and aids in blood sugar regulation.
Additionally, these little red gems also contain a high concentration of antioxidants, which can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. This means that these succulent berries may help to prevent arthritis, cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease, among other conditions.
Much like strawberries, raspberries are high in vitamin C, which is essential in collagen production and thus can help improve skin health and repair sun damage, as collagen accounts for 75% of your skin.
Ingredients for This Smoothie
Sweet strawberries and tart raspberries combine with honey, milk, and mint to create an incredible taste sensation. This delectable blend makes the ideal morning beverage.
- Strawberry and raspberry:
A heavenly mix of sweet strawberries and tart raspberries gives this icy cool smoothie a sweet-tart taste that will tantalize your taste buds. And as a bonus, they impart a cheerful pop of pink color.
Fresh ones are also acceptable but we chose frozen berries because they help the smoothie to turn out thicker, frostier, and creamier. Frozen fruits are without a doubt healthy. Freezing slows down the ripening and decaying processes of fruits, allowing them to last for extended periods.
- Milk and ice:
Milk imparts a mild flavor to our beverage and assists in its blending, while ice adds volume to the mixture. Additionally, vegan options are available. Almond and coconut milk can both work well in this recipe, plus, they also impart additional flavors.
Because the ice is added for texture and consistency rather than flavor, ensure that the desired consistency is maintained throughout. Add more milk if it's too thick, or more ice or frozen fruits if it's too thin.
- Honey and mint:
As this strawberry raspberry smoothie recipe is primarily composed of frozen berries, we added 4 tablespoons of honey to the smoothie base to bring extra sweetness. When combined with the pleasant hint of fresh herby aroma from the mint leaves, it gives the smoothie a divine flavor profile.
Storing and Freezing
- In the fridge
This strawberry raspberry smoothie should be consumed immediately for the best taste and texture. It will, however, keep for up to one day in the refrigerator if sealed in a container or mason jar with the lid on to prevent oxidation.
When you remove the smoothie from the refrigerator, you will notice that it has separated. Do not be alarmed; this is a normal change in texture following storage. Shake it well and you're ready to go.
- In the freezer
Storing your smoothie in the freezer ensures a longer shelf life. As such, this strawberry raspberry smoothie can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. Allow about an hour for the smoothie to thaw in the refrigerator before serving. The texture will change slightly, but the flavor will remain as good as fresh.
Another way to freeze your smoothie is to pour it into ice cube trays or popsicle molds. Combine these fruity ice cubes with any beverage to add more fun flavors.
Don't miss out on other greatness that these berries have to offer either. Check out our Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie, Raspberry Banana Smoothie, and Mango Raspberry Smoothie for more fruity magic.
