Our apple spinach smoothie recipe is a healthy, delicious blend of sweet fruits and veg. There are bananas, apples, spinach, and mint.
Is This Apple Spinach Smoothie Healthy?
Yes! Our apple spinach smoothie blends together several nutritious ingredients: apple, banana, spinach, and milk. Vitamin C, E, K, B1, B6, potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium, and many other nutrients can be found in various amounts.
The fruits are also naturally sweet and flavorful, so there’s no need for additional sweeteners. Drinks like this make it easy to control your added sugar intake.
Calorie-wise, each serving of this apple spinach smoothie recipe gives you about 136, which is within our calorie suggestion for beverages.
Ingredients for This Smoothie
Our apple spinach smoothie recipe calls for spinach, banana, milk, mint, and two types of apples:
Using only red apples and bananas can make the smoothie too sweet, so we threw in some tart green apples as well. You can tweak the ratio so it fits you, but remember to maintain the overall weight, which is 22 ounces worth of fruits.
After the spinach is given a quick rinse, you need to slice off the stems. This fibrous part is best reserved for stir-fries or casseroles rather than smoothies.
We used whole milk, though if you prefer, you can substitute in any other type of milk (to include plant-based alternatives). Opting for skimmed milk or half-and-half is also a nice way to consume fewer calories.
What Greens Are Best for Smoothies?
We often blend kale, spinach, and celery with our fruits. We think other greens like lettuce, broccoli, and Swiss chard are best saved for salads, but don’t be afraid to experiment.
If you’re short on ideas, start your journey with these delicious green smoothies:
- Blueberry Mango Green Smoothie: this drink combines sweet fruits, berries, spinach, and yogurt for a rich, nutritious health boost.
- Avocado Green Smoothie: it’s a luscious blend of seven types of fruits and veg, further enriched with avocado.
- Pineapple Green Smoothie: this smoothie is made with pineapple, bananas, orange juice, spinach, and kale.
How to Make This Apple Spinach Smoothie
Once you’ve measured out the apple, spinach, banana, milk, mint, sugar, and ice, blend them all until smooth:
For exact measurements, check out our ‘Apple Spinach Smoothie Recipe’ card at the end of this article.
We usually place ice at the bottom so the blender crushes it first and speeds the whole process along. If you often find ice chunks in your smoothie, it’s probably because your blender isn’t powerful enough. Either switch to soft ice, like ice nuggets, or break your ice with a pestle and cheesecloth first.
Blend ingredients.
Pour into serving glasses.
Garnish with more mint leaves and serve immediately.
How Long Does an Apple Spinach Smoothie Last?
Ours can last for about 2 days in the fridge and up to 3 months in the freezer. However, once blended with ice, the smoothie should be consumed in one sitting.
To store smoothies, we suggest this method:
- Blend all ingredients without ice.
- Divide the resulting paste into small Ziploc bags, 1-2 portions in each.
- Freeze the bags.
- Blend again with ice whenever you need it.
This method allows you to store weeks or months worth of your favorite beverage and saves you the hassle of measuring ingredients every time.
