Can You Put Raw Ginger in a Smoothie?
Yes, you can. It is safe to consume raw ginger, but only in small amounts. Large amounts of raw ginger can cause stomach irritation.
Is Mango Ginger Smoothie Healthy?
Mangoes are available in a wide variety. They come in various colors, shapes, and flavors. While mango skin can be green, red, yellow, or orange, the inner flesh is predominantly golden yellow.
Mangoes have several health benefits. Here we list a few of these to show you how nutrient-packed this fruit is.
Mangoes are high in the antioxidant zeaxanthin, a carotenoid that contributes to the fruit’s vibrant orange-yellow color.
Mangoes are rich in fiber, potassium, and vitamin, all of which help to prevent heart disease.
Consuming potassium-rich foods and eating less sodium are two of the most critical dietary changes you can make to reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure.
Mangoes, with their high vitamin A content, also benefit hair health. This nutrient helps the skin produce sebum, an oily substance that helps keep the hair moisturized. Vitamin A is also necessary for the growth of all body tissues, including the skin and hair.
Main Ingredients
Let’s run through the list to see what goes into today’s mango ginger smoothie recipe.
- Mangoes: You can use any variety, as long as it’s ripe and sweet.
- Ginger: This spicy, aromatic raw root will give your smoothie a subtle warmth.
- Pineapple: Ripe pineapples are recommended for this recipe, as their sweetness will add a touch of tropical lusciousness to your beverage. This secret ingredient is what gives our smoothie a balance in flavor, thanks to its sweet and tangy taste and fruity scent.
- Mint: We love using spearmints in our smoothies, but any type of mint will suffice. We recommend peppermint as its refreshing flavor suits this mango ginger smoothie well.
- Ice: This keeps the drink cool and refreshing, while also creating a thick, frothy texture.
How to Tell If Ginger Is Bad
Take note of the color and appearance of the ginger you’re using. Ginger flesh should be yellow. If it looks dull and brown, it is rotten.
Check the firmness of raw ginger that has not been peeled yet; it should be quite firm to the touch. If it feels mushy and soft, it's time to discard it.
Ginger has a distinct, spicy aroma. When it begins to lose its freshness, the odor is almost identical to that of other rotten vegetables.
At times, you may notice that unpeeled ginger has dry, wrinkled skin. This does not necessarily mean it has gone bad. It simply indicates that the ginger has lost a significant amount of moisture; you can continue to use it.
How Long Does This Smoothie Last?
Smoothies usually last up to two days in the refrigerator, and our mango ginger smoothie is no exception.
We recommend storing the smoothie in an airtight container, bottle, or jar that has a tight-fitting lid. This prevents oxidation and extends the life of the smoothie.
Allowing the smoothie to sit out on the counter at room temperature significantly shortens its shelf life to less than two hours.
