Is Mango Pineapple Smoothie Healthy?
This smoothie is creamy, fruity, and not overly sweet. Our recipe emphasizes the use of fresh ingredients, so let's tap into the nutritional profiles of our fruits to discover their health benefits.
- Mango
Mango is high in polyphenols and carotenoids, including beta-carotene, a compound that gives the fruit its vibrant color and anti-cancer properties.
One mango (pit and peel removed) contains 170 calories, the majority of which are from natural sugars, accounting for nearly 14% of the total nutrient content. Additionally, it contains fiber, vitamins A and B, and twice the amount of vitamin C found in an orange.
- Pineapple
Pineapple contains antioxidants such as vitamin C, which aid in the fight against wrinkles and promote collagen formation for firmer skin. It also contains bromelain enzyme, which aids the body in breaking down proteins and reducing inflammation in the gut.
Main Ingredients
- Mango and pineapple
Mango’s sweet and buttery flesh not only enhances the flavor of this smoothie but also makes it extra rich and thick. Pineapple gives the smoothie a delicious tartness to balance the sweetness of mango. Together, these two fruits bring a tropical vibrancy that’s endlessly exciting.
You can use fresh or frozen fruits. While you'll get a thick, sorbet-like texture with frozen mango, using fresh ones will result in a smoother drink that's easier to sip through a straw. Rest assured that both outcomes are equally satisfying.
If you're using fresh fruits, add ice cubes to the blender for a chunkier finish.
- Creamy agents and sweeteners
Greek yogurt
Yogurt is a common smoothie ingredient that contributes to a thick, creamy, and smooth finish. In this recipe, Greek yogurt perfectly balances the sweetness and tartness of the fruits while also providing additional protein and gut-friendly probiotics to your drink.
If you don't mind the extra fat content, you can substitute Greek yogurt with other creamy ingredients such as coconut cream for a more tropical flavor.
Whole milk
Milk is an excellent pair with Greek yogurt because it enhances the smoothie's creaminess without overpowering the fruit's vibrant flavors. Feel free to use whichever variety you prefer.
Honey
We added a tablespoon of honey to the mix for an extra edge of sweetness. If you find yours to be too sweet, simply reduce its amount or skip it altogether.
- Mint leaves and almond slices:
We used mint leaves and almond slices to impart a pleasant nuttiness and freshness to our smoothie. Though the amounts are small, they significantly enhance the aroma.
How Long Does This Smoothie Last?
- In the fridge
This mango pineapple smoothie will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Place the smoothie in an airtight container, such as a mason jar or Ziploc bag to maintain its flavor and avoid contamination or air exposure. Reducing its exposure to air is the best way to reduce the risk of oxidation and prevent the degradation of its nutritional value.
Don’t be alarmed if the smoothie splits after storing. Simply give it a good shake or stir with a spoon to re-combine.
- In the freezer
For long-term storage, store this drink in the freezer to last for up to 3 months. Freezing allows you to store it at a lower temperature with less exposure to light and air, thus extending the storage time.
To safely freeze it, use a freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag and allow for expansion by leaving an inch of space at the top of the container. Allow the smoothie to defrost at room temperature before serving.
The tropical fun doesn't have to end here! Enjoy the delectable sweetness in a few more of our tropical smoothies like this Papaya Pineapple Smoothie, Mango Banana Smoothie, and Mango Pineapple Banana Smoothie all of which promise nothing but good times ahead.
