Is Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie Healthy?
Yes, of course it is.
Strawberries are very low in calories, with only 32 calories per 100 grams and just 4.9 grams of sugar. They're one of nature’s most versatile and tasty fruits and are also a good source of natural antioxidants, vitamin C, and phenolic compounds. They can protect cells from oxidative damage and boost the immune system. They are also anti-inflammation and may also help to:
- Improve skin health
- Reduce the risk of cataracts and cancer
- Prevent heart disease
- Improve brain health
- Aid in weight loss
Then, you've got the lemons, which are a rich source of vitamin C, which may help to reduce your risk of heart disease and strokes. Beyond that, they may also be able to improve your digestive health and protect against anemia.
Ingredients You Will Need
- Strawberry
Fresh or frozen strawberries can be used for this recipe. If using fresh strawberries, be sure to wash them thoroughly and remove the stems before blending. Frozen ones don't need to be thawed before blending. In fact, it's the hard texture that gives your smoothie a frosty, thick consistency.
- Lemon
In this recipe, we'll squeeze the lemon for juice and zest the peel a bit. Freshly squeezed lemon juice will give your smoothie the best flavor. You'll need about 1 lemon to yield the needed amount.
- Ice
The ice is included for texture and consistency, not flavor. If you're not fond of ice or are using frozen fruit, you may either omit or lessen it.
- Sugar
Although not compulsory, we like to add a bit of sugar to sweeten the smoothie up just a bit and highlight the strawberries' natural taste even more. Feel free to omit it if you prefer.
How Long Does Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie Last?
It is advisable to consume this Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie immediately. However, it can still keep for up to 1 day in the refrigerator if placed in a sealed container or a mason jar with the lid on.
By the time you remove the smoothie from the fridge, you'll find it has separated. But don't worry; this is a normal change in texture after storing. Simply shake it and you're ready to go.
Can I Freeze This Smoothie?
Yes, you can.
To freeze, store the blended Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie in Ziploc bags or freezer-safe glass jars and put them in the freezer. The frozen smoothie can last for up to 3 months.
Let the smoothie thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving, so it’s ready for hectic mornings whenever you need it. The texture will change slightly, but still tastes as good as fresh.
Another trick with freezing is to pour your smoothie into ice cube trays. Pop these smoothie ice cubes in a cup of fresh milk or whatever beverage you’re about to enjoy to create a brand-new flavor party.
