Today’s cabbage juice recipe is a tasty and convenient way to incorporate nutritious vegetables into your diet. Not only is it easy to make, but this homemade drink is also much cheaper than buying it in a store.

Our 15-minute recipe will make the best use of everyday ingredients and leftover fruit in your fridge. Since cabbage is very neutral and mild-flavored, this juice is also adaptable, low-budget, and multi-purpose.

Can You Juice Cabbage?

Yes, of course you can. Here are the two ways to juice raw cabbage:

1. In a Blender

First, rinse and roughly chop the cabbage, then put it into a blender, half-filled with water. Blend the cabbage at low speed for 1-2 minutes, then turn it to high speed for a few seconds.

Don’t worry if you can still spot small pieces of cabbage left in the purée afterward — it’s totally acceptable.

Next, add the purée into a mesh sieve to separate the pulp from the liquid. Store it in tightly sealed jars and chill in the fridge before serving.

2. In a Juicer

Rinse the cabbage thoroughly, tear or roughly cut up the cabbage leaves until they are small enough to fit through the juicer, then turn it on at a low speed.

After the first round of juicing, check to see if the pulp is still wet. If so, pass it through the juicer one more time to get as much juice as possible.

Cap the juice in jars and chill it in the fridge for some time before serving or enjoy it immediately.

3. What Does This Juice Taste Like?

Fresh cabbage juice delivers a robust and mildly sharp flavor. Thanks to being so light-tasting, this juice can easily pair with so many sweet and acidic fruits.

Opt for the right combination of ingredients and you can turn cabbage juice into a refreshingly healthy and tasty beverage in seconds. Pineapple, apples, and oranges are some of the most common combinations with cabbage in a juice.

Cabbage Juice Benefits

Cabbage is an inexpensive source of essential nutrients and vitamins, such as iron, potassium, vitamin C, K, A, and B6. It’s also loaded with anthocyanins and powerful antioxidants.

Cabbage has also been found to be a suitable material for the production of probiotic cabbage juice by lactic acid bacteria. Thus, drinking this juice can really soothe a troubled tummy.

Raw cabbage is a rich source of glutamine, an amino acid that comes with many health benefits. These include gut healing and intestinal regulation as well as helping with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and white blood cell activity.

Thanks to the content of L-glutamine and gefarnate, fresh cabbage juice has been used to treat patients with peptic ulcers. Fermented this juice can also be consumed by people with lactose allergies.

Ingredients for This Juice

There are only 5 ingredients in this cabbage juice recipe: raw cabbage, cucumber, pineapple, lemon juice, and sugar.

The combination of pineapple and sugar in this drink provides the right amount of sweetness. They balance the sour taste of lemon juice and liven up the mild flavor of the cabbage.

ingredients

As cabbage, cucumber, and pineapple are fresh produce, they need to be rinsed thoroughly and chopped into small chunks for faster juicing. If the cabbage gets a little dirt on the outer leaves, simply remove them before coring.

For the cucumber, we recommend not peeling them to retain as many nutrients as possible.

How to Make Cabbage Juice

Run the cabbage, cucumber, and pineapple through a juicer. Pour the juice into a mixing bowl.

Cabbage Juice Side Effects

Cabbage, much like other cruciferous vegetables, contains substances called goitrogens. When consumed raw (unprocessed), it could possibly mess with your thyroid function. People with thyroid conditions might want to avoid drinking it for this reason.

Another small drawback of cabbage juice is that when consumed too much, it can also cause gas. Consulting with a gastroenterologist is advised if you suffer from any food intolerance that causes bad flatulence.

Can I Drink This Juice Every Day?

As long as you never encounter any bad or severe reaction to cabbage, sure, you can enjoy this juice daily — in moderate amounts, of course.

Consuming a serving of this juice 30 minutes before your main meal might help improve digestion as well as bowel function. Drinking cabbage juice on an empty stomach in the morning can also have detoxifying effects.

How Long Does This Juice Last?

As this juice is a fresh and homemade drink without any preservatives, it goes bad more quickly than juice bought in the store. In fact, the cabbage starts losing its nutrients the moment it’s juiced, so storing it in tightly sealed jars is advised.Leftover this juice can last up to 1 week in the fridge. It’s super convenient to prep in advance so you’ll have a healthy drink readily chilled whenever you want to keep yourself hydrated.
