Broccolis are awesome in many ways: in a cheesy casserole, with meat in a stir-fry, or freshly steamed with a dipping sauce on the side just to name a few. With the right accompaniments, this green vegetable can also form the basis of a really tasty drink.
Our formula combines the freshly extracted broccoli-spinach elixir with pear juice, lemon juice, mint, and ice. The tart-sweet beverage veers towards sweetness and possesses a cooling, relaxing aroma.
Health Benefits
Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin C and K and contains various amounts of vitamin A, vitamin B9, potassium, and phosphorus, among many other nutrients. All of these come with very few calories, making it a great food you can indulge in to feel full and avoid overeating later.
It is juiced along with spinach and pear, bringing yet more nutrients, albeit in small amounts, to the table, such as phosphorus, copper, and some others.
This drink has 94 calories and 6 g added sugar per serving. Added sweetener ensures a good flavor profile and you can adjust the amount to your preference.

Our broccoli juice recipe calls for:
- Broccoli and Spinach
Since the veggies are not to be cooked, a 10-minute soak in saltwater (1 tbsp for every 4 cups) is necessary to remove dirt, bacteria, and possible contaminants. Broccoli has a natural layer of wax, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see the outside getting wet.
Freeze these vegetables and they’ll yield more liquid when juiced. Water particles within the plant cells expand and burst the cells open as they’re frozen, so plenty of liquid flows out during the thawing process. Still, since broccoli and spinach aren’t exactly juicy to begin with, you shouldn’t expect a pool of green juice.
- Pears
You might find yourself among different types of pears at the grocery store. Pears don’t vary much in taste, so any variety will work just fine. We actually prefer Korean pears — they’re large, juicy, and often very sweet.
- Lemon Juice, Mint, and Sugar
Although used in small amounts, these ‘spices’ contribute plenty to the drink. A hint of tartness and a touch of a cooling sensation really make a difference.
Mint leaves don’t contain much liquid, so they need to be juiced along with the pear. You can run the juice pulp through the machine one more time to really collect their essence.
How to Cut Broccoli for Juicing
Cut it into florets small enough to be placed into the feeding tube. The same goes for the other ingredients.
Storage and Freezing the Leftover
This drink can be kept in the fridge for up to 2 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Store it in a large pitcher for easy access, and portion it into small sealable bags to freeze and thaw more easily.
How to Tell if Broccoli Has Gone Bad
Broccoli is similar to most plants — they will stay green and edible for some time, then turn yellow and finally brown before dying. If your broccoli starts to develop yellow spots, make something with it before it’s too late.

INGREDIENTS
- 6 oz broccoli (soaked and clean)
- 1 oz spinach (soaked and clean)
- 12 oz pear
- 2 tbsp sugar (optional)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 8 leaves mint
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups ice
INSTRUCTIONS
Run 6 oz broccoli, 1 oz spinach, 12 oz pear, and 8 mint leaves through the juicer.
Stir the juice with 1 cup water, sugar (no more than 2 tbsp), and 1 tsp lemon juice.
Enjoy with ice.
