This strawberry smoothie with yogurt recipe is dedicated to everyone who loves making their own healthy drinks at home.
Is Strawberry Smoothie With Yogurt Healthy?
Yes, this strawberry smoothie with yogurt recipe is healthy.
As is the case with many of our other dishes, it adheres to our healthy eating guidelines.
We restrict the amount of added sugar in the recipe; strawberries are inherently sweet so only a little amount of sugar is required to offset their acidity.
In this recipe, we use 3 tablespoons of sugar to make 4 smoothie servings. It may seem a lot, but you can always cut back your added sugar intake for the rest of the day to maintain a reasonably healthy diet.
In addition, strawberries are packed with vitamins and minerals that are crucial to your health. Although there may not be a large number of nutrients in a single serving of smoothie, it will still give your system a modest healthy boost.
Ingredients You'll Need
You will need the following ingredients for this strawberry smoothie with yogurt recipe:
- Frozen strawberries: If you have leftover fresh strawberries you want to use up, place them in the freezer for a few hours. Or you can buy a packet of frozen strawberries at your favorite grocery store to save time.
- Almond: Blending nuts into smoothies is a great way to slightly improve and thicken your drink’s texture. It’s also a great way to add richness and healthy fats.
- Dairy: In this recipe, we use whole milk and Greek yogurt. If you’re lactose-intolerant, feel free to swap for any other alternatives you prefer.
- Sweeteners: We use simple regular white sugar, but you can substitute with honey if you prefer.
- Garnish: As always, we love adding a few mint leaves to garnish and give the drink a refreshing twist.
- And ice.
How Do You Thicken Smoothies?
Using frozen fruits as we suggest can help thicken your smoothie. If you want your smoothie to have an even more viscous texture, here are a few tricks:
- Freeze the liquids
This extra step may be time-consuming but it can guarantee a thicker smoothie that stays cold for a long time.
The liquids we use for today’s strawberry smoothie with yogurt recipe are milk and Greek yogurt. Transfer them to an ice tray and let them freeze for at least 5 hours before making your drink.
This technique also works with other liquids such as plant-based milk or fruit juice.
- Add raw oats, chia seeds, or nuts
These three ingredients are a great way to sneak more nutrients into your drink and add a thicker consistency.
Use old-fashioned rolled oats if you want to give your drink a boost of fiber. We did this with our Banana Oatmeal Smoothie Recipe and Peanut Butter Oatmeal Smoothie Recipe and we absolutely loved the results.
Chia seeds absorb moisture and become plump with an interesting thick texture. They also provide an additional boost of protein, fiber, and omega-3s.
As for nuts, we already use almonds for this recipe — you don’t need to add more.
- Add some protein powder
Protein powder contains thickening agents, which is why it has a noticeable viscosity when you mix it with water.
So instead of mixing your protein powder with plain old water, add it to a smoothie for a much more enjoyable experience.
How Long Does It Smoothie Last
As always, we recommend drinking your smoothie within the first hour to enjoy the best quality. So don’t keep it all to yourself; pour your loved ones a glass of this rich strawberry smoothie with yogurt too.
If, after dividing the portions, you have any leftovers, transfer them to a mason jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid and place it in the fridge immediately. It may only stay good for a day in the fridge, but it should last for up to a month in the freezer.
