Have there been times when you had tons of beets and not a single clue what to do with them? They make great salads, or a good sides when roasted, and amazing beverages when juiced with other fruits.

We also know beets aren’t a favorite for most people, because of their earthy aroma. This recipe has beet juice mixed with orange juice and pomegranate juice, making the flavor of beets less pronounced.

Is Our Orange Beet Juice Healthy?

Our orange beet juice recipe makes a refreshing, nutrient-packed beverage to drink on the regular.

1. Support the Immune System

For starters, this juice has a similar effect on your immune system as most organic juices, thanks to the antioxidants.

Antioxidants are known to protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals. This damage is referred to as “oxidative stress,” which is linked to immune deficiency, Medical News Today says.

Diets rich in antioxidants can, therefore, improve immune system performance.

2. Lower Blood Pressure

This is one of the unique properties of beets, or any other rich source of organic nitrates. These substances raise nitric oxide levels, which can lead to a significant reduction in blood pressure.

Thanks to this special property, beet juice is sometimes treated as a home remedy for hypertension. Research shows beet juice is a potential supplementation to reduce blood pressure.

However, we believe diseases and health conditions should be treated and cured by the hands of professionals. If you do have hypertension or related diseases, we recommend consulting a doctor, rather than relying on articles online.

3. Promote Cardiovascular Health

An antioxidant-rich diet is also linked to lowered risks of cardiovascular diseases, a study claims. Antioxidants like vitamin C can protect the artery walls against radical damage, thus enhancing their durability.

Vitamin C is also found to lower the rate of LDL oxidation, which leads to artery plaque formation. Sufficient intake of this vitamin is, therefore, linked to effective plaque removal.

In addition to this nutrient, iron and folate in beet juice also play important roles in the body. They are responsible for forming red blood cells, ensuring the normal circulation of blood.

4. Maintain Healthy Skin

Our skin cells constantly suffer from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Oxidative stress damages the cells, which can accelerate the aging process of skin cells.

Antioxidants like vitamin C can reduce the effects of oxidative stress and thus slow down the aging process.

Orange Beet Juice Calories

One serving of this orange beet juice recipe yields 113 calories.

Oranges and beets are naturally sweet, so we were supposed to add zero sugar or honey into this drink. However, the oranges we had were far from sweet, and as a result, we turned to granulated sugar.

The amount we added is 6 grams per serving, which accounts for only less than 20% of the total calories. This completely complies with the USDA’s recommended daily intake of sugar:

Make Orange Beet Juice Without a Juicer

Getting a juicer can be a great nuisance, especially if you don’t drink juice on a daily basis. Researching, writing down the criteria, considerations— we’ve been through all of it, and it is not easy.

With a blender and cheesecloth, you can make beet juice in the comfort of your own kitchen.

First, cut the beets into small pieces. The smaller the pieces are, the less time it will take for your blender.

Make Orange Beet Juice Without a Juicer

Then, add the beets into the blender along with ½ cup of water. Blend until it becomes a smoothie, and then grab the cheesecloth to extract the juice by hand.

Place the cheesecloth over a sieve, into a bowl. Pour the beet “smoothie” into the cheesecloth, grab its corners, and wring out the beet juice.

You’ll find the amount of liquid coming out is the same, no matter how hard you squeeze it. Be gentle with it, and you’ll end up with a beautiful batch of juice in less than 5 minutes.

Beets have a high water content, so they don’t need to be cooked in advance to give juice :D. Steaming/boiling the beets helps if you want the earthy smell to be less intense, but the juice will not be as concentrated.
Our juicer is cold-press juicer, so we got the most juice out of the vegs/fruits. If you want to cook them because your juicer has trouble juicing raw beets, you can chop the beets finely so they’re easier to work with, plus preserving the original flavors of beets :D.
Thank you for asking and please don’t hesitate to talk with us if you have more questions!
