Since the shrimp burger recipe is not as popular as its cousins like beef or chicken, it makes an interesting case for us to recreate at home. Our shrimp burger brings together juicy shrimp patties, sweet and crunchy veggies, melted cheddar, and mayonnaise sauce; all wrapped in buttery toasted buns for a glorious bite.

Is This Shrimp Burger Healthy?

Our shrimp burger is made entirely from scratch (except the buns) with real nutritional considerations, so yes, it is healthy.

With an abundance of cheese, seasoning, and sauce, burgers are often considered fast food. To create a healthier version at home, we used only 0.5 oz cheese for topping and ¼ teaspoon of salt for the patties.

This helps keep the saturated fat and sodium at a moderate 6.7 g and 550 mg, respectively. Those are within the healthy limits recommended by the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines.

Shrimp Burger Calories

Each serving of this shrimp burger contains approximately 480 calories — relatively low compared to those store-bought variants. The dish is excellent for pairing with a classic side of French fries and a fresh juice drink, with the whole meal containing about 750 calories.

What to Put On a Shrimp Burger

1. Shrimp Patties

The trick while making the patties is not to pulse the shrimp into a chunky paste but only roughly blend them. In this way you will end up with patties that are bursting with flavor from a few large chunks of shrimp.

Our unique blend of simple spices: salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and coriander add tons of flavor to compliment the seafood. Lastly, this recipe uses egg and breadcrumbs to bind the ingredients together and help form the patties. Without the binding agents, the burgers would fall apart in the hot griddle skillet.

Note that it also really doesn’t matter which size of shrimp is used in this recipe; you do, however, need raw and fresh shrimp. The pre-cooked shrimp won’t work with burger patties.

2. Vegetables

Lettuce and tomatoes are not only aesthetically pleasing but also offer a delightful contrast in flavors and texture. Other favorite add-ins for the topping could be red onions, avocado, or anything else that satisfies your taste buds. The result will surely be delicious every time!

3. Cheese

An excellent burger calls for great cheese. Cheddar gives a creamy consistency and adds a rich and tangy flavor.

4. Sauce

To create a wondrous burger the sauce is super important. Ours is made with four elements: mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and chopped parsley.

With a dairy base, our sauce should be stored in the refrigerator to retain its quality and texture. When ready to eat, spread your toasted buns with this creamy, aromatic sauce and prepare the veggies and protein patties.

How to Make a Shrimp Burger

Our shrimp burgers are quick and easy to make, following a similar process when making beef burgers. The most time-consuming step is prepping the patties, but the food processor will take most of the effort.

This burger recipe can be made without a food processor since it is perfectly possible to chop the shrimp with a knife. However, a food processor makes it quicker and more straightforward. The result is nice chunks of shrimp that stick together with a smooth consistency and facilitate forming the patty shape.

How to Store and Reheat Shrimp Burger

The shrimp patties can be stored well in the refrigerator and freezer, making this recipe a fantastic make-ahead meal to be enjoyed any time during the week. Separately place the cooked patties and vegetables in an airtight container or storage bag. They can last fresh in the fridge for about 3 days and 2 – 3 months in the freezer.

When ready to use, transfer the frozen patties from the freezer and let them thaw in the fridge the night before. You can either reheat them in a pan (with a bit of oil or butter) or in a microwave.

Once the thickest part of the patties reaches 75°C (165°F) or the outer crust achieves a golden-brown color, add them to the burger buns followed by your toppings of choice and serve.

What to Serve With Shrimp Burger

Bursting with buttery flavor and a creamy texture, our air fryer French fries make a perfect classic side dish. Even better, they come with less oil, thanks to the cooking method.

We round out the meal with a glass of green grape juice. Squeeze a bit of lemon juice in to liven up this couldn’t-be-easier drink, making the meal end on a gorgeous note.
